Remembering the late actor Norman Eshley

Norman Eshley was a British actor and writer best known for portraying the snobbish neighbour Jeffrey Fourmile in the ITV sitcom George and Mildred.

Born in Bristol this day in 1945 (30th May), he trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, began with Shakespearean roles, and appeared in West End productions, films such as Orson Welles’ The Immortal Story, and TV series including Man About the House, Warship, and I, Claudius.

He later co-wrote The Dreamtime of the Artful Dodger.

Sadly, he passed away from cancer in 2025 at age 80.

I had the privilege of speaking with him and showcasing his first book, ‘The Dreamtime of the Artful Dodger,’ which he co-authored with Elizabeth Revill.

You can see an excerpt taken from his book over on Books Blog.
