Living in this part of the country, even this part of Somerset has it’s benefits, but the big negative are the mosquitos.
There are various things that you can do, and I will share some of these things, but I do have to point out that I am not an expert in this, so what I am giving you here is just some of the information that I have researched myself, and this is just scratching the surface.
- If you are bitten, try not to scratch it. This is easier said than done I know.
- To help with this, there are a number of things you can use.
- I’m not a medical expert, so will not be telling you what to use, but if you speak with a chemist, they will be able to give you advice on this.
- Wear loose clothing. While it’s obvious that mosquitos can easily bite you with no covering, they can also get through tightly fitting clothing.
- Either keep your windows closed, or fit mesh to your windows, allowing air in, but not the mosquitos.
- There is no evidence that eating specific foods, or taking medication will help to ward off mosquitos.
- If possible, stay indoors during the worst times. Mosquitos are at their busiest at dawn & dusk, so if you can stay away from them at those times, you are less likely to be bitten.
- Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, so removing any water-filled containers in your garden, such as buckets, flowerpots, or birdbaths may help.
- Planting mosquito-repellent plants, such as lavender, marigold, or citronella around outdoor spaces can discourage mosquitoes.
